Clear Aligners, like Invisalign, are a comfortable, easy to care for alternative to standard metal braces, designed to align your teeth correctly.
The Clear Aligner process works simply and effectively through a series of aligners that position your teeth. Your aligners are based on computer-generated images and impressions (in our office, the impression process is all digital!) also called CAD-CAM that we take At Koppelman Dental
How Clear Aligners Works
Less uncomfortable and more convenient than traditional metal braces, clear aligners like Invisalign’s move your teeth into straighter positions incrementally. Here’s how: the aligners are given to you as a series that changes just a little every time you put a new aligner in your mouth. With each tray change, your teeth are a bit straighter, with each tray shaped for teeth that are just marginally straighter than your teeth. Much more gentle than metal braces, Invisalign simply puts mild pressure on your teeth, pressure that moves them to match with each of the aligners gradually.
You’ll wear each individual Invisalign aligner set between one and two weeks, which allows the necessary time for teeth to gradually straighten.
Patients using Invisalign visit their dentist usually once every six weeks. This is so that your dentist can make sure the treatment is going well and your teeth are progressively straighter.
Why Choose Invisalign like Clear Aligners?
There are many reasons to select Invisalign over standard metal braces. They’re more comfortable and attractive than metal braces. In fact, made from clear plastic, they are practically invisible to others when you are wearing them.
You can also remove your Invisalign trays for 2 to 4 hours every day. Metal braces cannot be removed, and must be worn 24 hours a day, seven days a week even if they are uncomfortable.
Clear Aligners also allow for better hygiene, as you can brush and floss with ease.
How Long Do Clear Aligners Like Invisalign Take?
Along with being more comfortable and attractive, Invisalign also takes less time to straighten your teeth than traditional metal braces! Metal braces can take two full years to complete the straightening process, but Invisalign typically takes an average of between 6 and 18 months to straighten your teeth.
Over the months that you wear Invisalign, you’ll have 20 to 50 different aligners. The number varies because you and your teeth are each unique, but no matter how many aligner trays are worn, the important thing is to be sure they’re in your mouth for the required daily number of hours. If they are not, your teeth won’t move into the anticipated position, disrupting the use of the aligner trays and affecting their fit.
Dental Care During Invisalign Treatment
- Besides wearing your aligners every day for the amount of time your dentist tells you, it’s important to take care of them properly. It’s easy:
- Remove your aligners whenever you eat or drink anything other than water
- Remove your aligners to brush and floss twice daily
- Clean your aligners with a soft toothbrush whenever you brush your teeth
Can Anyone Wear Invisalign?
The Invisalign process is effective for just about all ages, teens or adults. Comfortable, easy to wear, discreet, and offering a faster teeth straightening process when compared to metal braces – that’s Invisalign. All you have to do is be sure that you are able to wear them every day as your dentist directs!
